Our Story

About Chris Peru

An American in Peru, driven by love, loss, and a mission to protect every animal.

Who We Are

Hello, I'm Chris.

I'm an American who has been living in Peru full time for the past several years. My connection with Peru started with my father, Lt. Col. Philip O'Sullivan, who came here in the late '80s as part of the American Military's efforts to improve the lives of children in the Peruvian Andes.

Tragically, my father passed away after I moved with him to Peru in 2019. May he rest in peace. After his passing, our family faced another challenge when Bandi, his loyal German Shepherd, fell seriously ill.

The difficult experience with several veterinary clinics in Peru inspired me to make a change. We decided to establish our own full-service Veterinary Hospital in Peru — where the well-being of pets comes before financial gains.

Having immersed myself in a completely different culture and mindset, I witness the pressing need for an efficient Animal Control system, or, at the very least, a reliable helpline for pet owners. Our ultimate goal is to create a spacious facility dedicated to boarding, feeding, and providing medical care — including surgery — for up to 500 dogs and 300 cats at any given time.

Our History

The Journey So Far.

From a soldier's love of Peru to Lima's most ambitious animal welfare mission — a chronicle of how the work began.

  1. 2012

    First Visit to Peru

Inspired by his father's stories of the Andes, Chris visits Peru for the first time. He is hooked — drawn to the warmth of the people, the beauty of the country, and the scale of the need.

  2. 2019

    Philip Passes Away in Lima

Lt. Col. Philip O'Sullivan passes away peacefully in Lima, Peru — his favorite place in the world, surrounded by the soothing sound of ocean waves. May he rest in peace.

  3. 2019

    Bandi's Place is Founded

After Philip's passing, Bandi — his loyal German Shepherd — falls seriously ill. The difficulty of finding proper veterinary help inspires Chris to make a change, founding what would become Bandi's Place.

  4. 2021

    Charting a New Course

Chris dreams big — an animal sanctuary capable of holding 500 dogs and 300 cats at any given time. Bandi's Place opens a new veterinary clinic, creates jobs, and launches a pet food brand.

  5. 2022

    Opened a Vet Clinic

We establish our own full-service Veterinary Hospital in Peru, where the well-being of pets comes before financial gains. Bandi's Lunch and Cream are born the same year.

  6. 2022

    We Found the Dog Lots

We discover over 500 claustrophobic dog lots cramming up to 110 dogs into spaces meant for a dozen. The tales of hunger, untreated injuries, and neglect are deafening. The mission becomes clear.
